- About Your PetSite
We are an advanced veterinary services hospital specializing in geriatric care, exotics, feline medicine & surgery, and all of the healthcare needs for your faithful companion. Pet boarding services are available, as are housecalls for those that do not like to travel. Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of regular preventative care. Diagnosing problems early increases the lifespan and quality-of-life for your pet, and saves you money. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best. We are the only AAHA accredited referral hospital in either Maine or New Hampshire. We also have the only board certified feline specialist and board certified exotic companion mammal specialist in either state.
Our nurses spend a significant amount of time with each patient, taking a complete history and establishing your pet’s database including blood pressure, heart rate, body weight, and temperature. Then each animal will receive a “nose to tail” physical examining every body system: eyes, ears, nose, mouth, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, urinary, musculoskeletal, endocrine, and skin. Only at Animal Medical Associates can you have a board certified specialist examine your animal at no additional cost!
Want to provide your pet with the best of veterinary care, but unable to travel? Tired of hearing Fluffy cry in the car all the way to the hospital or watching Fido shake? We can help! We offer housecalls for non-emergency situations on a regular basis for all routine wellness services, as well as some other procedures upon request. Just give us a call today to arrange your housecall in the Saco area!
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services
Our hospital is equipped to provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs.
Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures:
We can even offer surgery by a board certified surgical specialist on premises!
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures. Our team of well trained nurses take pride in closely monitoring every anesthetized patient from the time they enter our facility until they are discharged back into your care.
Internal medicine, ultrasounds, and oncology
We offer on-site ultrasounds which helps us with the diagnosis of more complicated cases in a non-invasive manner. We also have a consulting oncologist to help review and tailor chemotherapy protocols for our cancer patients - helping them to maximize their quality lifespan. Most procedures can be done at our facility, under the supervision or guidance of a boarded specialist.
Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.
Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and oral surgery. Optimal dental care is critical to the well being of your pet.
Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for histopathology and specialized diagnostics and consultations.
We offer microchip identification through the Home Again pet protection system.
We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. Products are available either onsite, or for purchase through our online store.
Individualized Flea and Tick Control Programs
We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, your yard, and on your pet. A flea free environment is healthier not only for your pet, but for you, too! Ticks can be very aggressive pests in our area, and it is important to address these parasites, as well as the serious diseases they can transmit, on a year round environment.
We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Each animal is unique, and so are their dietary needs.
We can provide advice regarding the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression in all of the commonly kept pet species.
We offer boarding for all species: cats, dogs, exotics. Whether you are wanting to be away for the afternoon, the weekend, or a month - you can rest assured that your pet will be cared for like family! We offer toys and treats as well as special extra playtime one and one with a staff member. If you are the owner of a "special species" that has special housing requirements (such as birds and reptiles), please plan to bring your pet's home along to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible.
Should your pet have an emergency at a time that our facility is not staffed with veterinarians and technicians to attend to the emergency needs of your pet - emergency care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in nearby Scarborough. The Maine Veterinary Referral Center can be reached at 207-885-1290.
