Dr. Mitchell

Dr Mitchell is a board certified feline specialist – one of less than 100 in the entire United States. This means that your cats will get the most advanced medical care available!
I’m Dr. Sandra Mitchell. I am a 1995 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. Since my graduation, I have worked and studied across the country – having started with an internship at a major referral center in California, then I owned a practice in Orrington, Maine (River Road Veterinary Hospital), and finally spent a short time working in New York before returning to Maine. My special interests involve geriatric medicine and internal medicine – and I am especially interested in cancer care. I am one of only a small number of board certified feline specialists in the United States (ABVP – feline) and love to work with cats of all personalities. I am in the process of creating a board certification for exotic companion mammals with a committee of other exotic-interested veterinarians (I am on the exam writing committee).

I have campaigned on the state and federal levels for better protection for exotic mammals – especially to improve the housing and welfare for the domestic ferret and to prohibit transportation of ferrets prior to 8 weeks of age. I have been a trail veterinarian for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, the Yukon Quest (and I have canoed the sister race – the Yukon River Quest – an almost 500 mile canoe trip down the Yukon River!), the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race, and a number of other races. I like to work with all animals – whether a tiny Zebra Finch, a Corn Snake, a ferret, a cat, or a dog.
On a personal level, I live with my husband Bob and my mom – as well as a few of our closest friends: our cats, dogs, ferrets, and birds. We seem to attract the unwantables: the 3 legged, one-eyed, cancer ridden animals that still need love and attention. (And no, none of them are named Lucky). For fun, I like to open whitewater canoe with my paddling partner Terry Wescott, and enjoy running marathons and competing in triathlons. As well as hiking, reading, skiing………..and by then I’ve usually run out of time! I hope you’ll come by and meet all of us at Animal Medical Associates.

Dr. Ginette Beaudoin

Hi, my name is Ginette Beaudoin. I enjoy hiking, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, and photography. I am an AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) information volunteer and trip leader. I graduated from Purdue Veterinary School in 1983 and have been in private practice since then. I recently sold my interest in AMA to Dr. Sandra Mitchell and I will be staying on a part time basis. I enjoy doing surgery as well as appointments.
